The diesel motors will last forever. It's all the other parts of the car we need to worry about!

Interestingly enough I was just talking to my service advisor who mentioned this car. Car has been extremely reliable, but had to get a new active and passive tank recently which costs just shy of $4k. Looks like he decided to trade it in on an Acura after the repair.

IMO that's utterly ridiculous and should be covered by BMW. They're the ones who chose/had to make the car a "clean" diesel.

We need to find a way to program the urea system out of our cars. My brother in-laws 2012 Dodge Ram diesel pick up doen't have a urea system. I can only guess we have it in our cars to meet some bullshit CA emissions requirement.

Yep that's just it. It's there to make it "50 state legal." I saw a transit bus yesterday that was "clean diesel" as I was walking on the sidewalk. It pulled up to pick up some passengers and I clearly saw the urea tank and diesel tank marked on it.

Never expected to see that...lol

I've been saying this for a couple years. Somewhat surprised there isn't a hack for this, if for no reason but to reduce weight.

I drive 120miles per day excluding drives to grocery store or gym. Brakes are soft at 52k. No engine issues since delivery. Hoping it will last to 150,000miles.

Change all of the fluids regularly and it should go further than that.

Not possible for Californians- our diesels get emissions tested for NOx. For the many other states where diesels don't get checked it could be an option but I think the market might be too small in NA for tuners to come up with a bypass.
