Next generation 6 Series (G15) and M6 rumored for weight and size reduction
BIMMERPOST NEWS Next generation 6 Series (G15) and M6 rumored to have major weight reduction An uncorroborated/unsourced rumor coming from CAR claims that the next generation 6 Series (G15) and M6 will shed some massive weight. All three 6 Series variants are reportedly going on a diet, with the coupe losing over 500 pounds, to approximately 3,450 pounds and the convertible also dropping 500 pounds to 3,750 pounds. Both models are claimed to be coming down in size as well. The Gran Coupe will also be getting lighter, despite growing in size with a longer wheelbase. The weight reductions would be in large part owed to the advanced modular architecture which we've been referring to as 35up for the next generation 3-series, 5-series (G30) and larger models, and which has recently been renamed CLAR, which stands for cluster architecture. CLAR introduces a lightweight advanced material mix with some carbon fiber, high-strength steel, magnesium, titanium and aluminum alloys. Along with xDrive AWD, CAR claims new 6 and 8 cylinder engines, with the 3.0L 6 cylinder turbo making 347 horsepower, the 4.4L V8 making 476 horsepowers and the M6's twin-turbo V8 hitting 600 horsepower. That there are such specific weight and power figures revealed for a model not expected for a couple of years makes portions of the report somewhat dubious, but what we can safely expect is that the G15 generation of 6 Series will lose weight from the current models and that power and performance will be increased. |

If they can get that thing down under 3500lbs I'll be very impressed based on the other specs. M6 will be a monster, this is coming from someone who has always hated the 6.

What do you mean...??? is this sarcasm as BMW talked about how much lighter the M4 was going to be and it ended up being at most 100lbs lighter in a single car configuration...
My only hope is they look at what MB did to the SL, I believe they took out 300-400lbs. Last edited by Oaktree; 12-03-2014 at 01:21 PM.. Reason: derp |

Reduced weight yields improvements in all aspects of performance so long as chassis rigidity is maintained.

If the 5er and 6er are under 3800 that would be a major coup. A size someplace around the e60 would be welcome too.

I want to believe it'll happen, but can't realistically see it.

With a v8 and an (advertised) low weight, it seems like the coupe could be the M4 F82-haters wanted.

so the G15 will get smaller and lighter while the f32/33 gets bigger and heavier? besides styling and engines, what will distinguish the two?

So is the talk of the G15M and G30M getting a V10 all but dead at this point?
