Hellooo,

I have a 2015 Bmw 435i xdrive (msport package). Recently found oil under my passenger side wheel and also noticed my strut has oil on it. Safe to assume I have blown my passenger side strut at 70k km.

Questions about replacing,
1) Turns out the strut is special so it works with adaptive suspension. Dealership quoted me $1100 for the passenger strut. Any idea on where else I can look to replace the part?. I would also be fine with replacing both the front struts with after market parts but can't find any reasonable priced ones. Especially in Canada.
2) Can I reuse my old springs since my car only has 70k km on it.
3) How long can I drive with the blown strut?

replace both fronts with Bilstein B4 damptronic. they are the aftermarket OEM adaptive replacements. they are often out of stock, so it may be difficult to find them.

you can re-use your stock springs. you should anticipate other worn and torn bits. since labor cost may often be almost half of the cost of fixing your suspension, i suggest changing the strut mounts (aka top hats), spring seats, bump stops and shock protectors also.

zee435i, are you planning to keep the car for some time? Do you use and like M Adaptive suspension (aka EDC) features?

Another option is to replace all shocks and springs with aftermarket struts and springs and either code out EDC functionality or install EDC Delete module (which tells EDC ECU that all is well even though EDC struts are no longer installed).

Also, would please link the B4 damptronics. In terms of labor cost, I will be doing em myself. Fortunately got all the time in the world right now.

Yes sir, Summer just came around so I would love to use the EDC features. Any way to replace just the front driver strut with an aftermarket part that works with the stock adaptive control? Car only has 70k km and It seems other people had their struts fail at quite higher mileages.

Ah looking more into it. This is the specific part# for the B6. 23-266490
This has the adaptive control/spring that will work with the oem parts. I think, or I might be completely wrong.

I also found the B4 part, 23266476. You reckon it would be bad if I only replace one side from the front and leave driver side with OEM?

again, it is an OEM replacement that is designed to operate with the BMW EDC. an EDC damper made by Bilstein, instead of Sachs or whatever company BMW is using to manufacture their dampers.

also you need to get the B4, not B6. B6 are monotube high performance shocks are stiffer due to high gas pressures and they will cause your car to sit higher than stock height. B4 are twin tube macpherson type normal replacement.

if your budget is that limited, of course you could do just one. it's preferable to do both sides so the compression and rebound are equal across the axle...

It's always recommended to replace both struts since your vehicle has quite a few miles.

Don't forget to schedule time for a 4 wheel alignment.
